PE & Sporting Provision

Our children have the opportunity to be involved with both intra and inter-school competitions playing hockey, netball, cricket, tag rugby, football, Dodgeball, and tennis. They also participate in Sports Hall Athletics, Dance, Cross country, Rounders, Multi-skills and Gymnastics. Children in KS2 also receive swimming lessons.

In addition to the above, we also provide opportunities to participate in activities such as wheelchair basketball and climbing.

Pupils across the school also learn about the importance of physical activity as part of developing healthy lifestyles. The partner work we do with Sports Trek and Freddy Fit help to ensure this important message is embedded.

 Freddy Fit sessions January 2020

Freddy spent 3 days in school working with all the classes on skills, techniques and fun fitness. He also worked with our lunchtime staff, teaching them games they can then organise on the yard to keep us all fit, healthy and engaged during playtimes.

Year 4 Quicksticks Hockey

On 6/12/19 we had two Year 4 teams enter the Maryport Quicksticks Hockey tournament held at Ewanrigg School. In the group stages, team 1 won 2 games and lost one, whilst team 2 won 2 and drew 1. Both teams finished top of their groups and went through to the semi-final.

Team 1 played really well but unfortunately lost their semi final match. Team 2 also played well and at full time the score was 1-1. This meant the match went to ‘sudden death’, the first team to score were through to the final………… and they did it!

The final, against Our Lady and St Patrick’s was very close and ended with penalties. Despite playing so well, we unfortunately did not win but may still have secured a place in the Allerdale final next term.

Y4 hockey

Freddy Fit visited school for 3 days at the end of November to work with all classes to learn about keeping fit and healthy and to enjoy a range of exercises. The children particularly enjoyed the hoola hooping and the dance routines. Freddy set all the children challenges to beat their personal times and scores before he returns again in January.

On Tuesday 26th November our Year 5/6 team took part in the Maryport sports hall athletics competition held at Dearham School. they competed in a range of sports which tested their running, jumping and throwing skills. We were delighted with the teamwork and enthusiasm they all showed - well done everyone. The final scores were very close and our team finished in second place, coming just 2 points behind the winners.

On Saturday 9th November, some of the children who attend our after school running club took part in the Workington park run with Mrs Holliday. Despite the cold and wet, they had a fantastic time and all completed the course.

On Wednesday 13th November, our KS1 gymnastics team competed in the Maryport schools competition. They all performed their routines very well and were delighted to be given first place. The team will now progress through to the Allerdale final.

Our Y5/6 team played really well and won the group stage of the competition to take them through to the semi-final. The semi-final match was very close and finished 3-3. In order to decide which team would go through to the final, it went to ‘sudden death’. Unfortunately, Fairfield scored first and Maryport finished in third place. Congratulations to Seaton CE Junior School who were the overall winners.

On Friday 11th October we had 2 teams from Years 5 and 6 enter the Maryport high 5 netball competition held at Workington Leisure Centre. Both teams played extremely well and finished the first round top of their groups. The final result saw Team B finishing 4th and Team A finishing 1st overall. this means Team A will now go on to represent Maryport in the Allerdale final on 6th November.
