As our children move from Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1, their learning becomes more subject based as they will now follow the National Curriculum.

Throughout Year 1 and into the first term of Year 2, we will continue to use Read, Write Inc (RWI) as the main way to teach English. The sessions will continue to focus on phonics and early reading but will increasingly look at spelling patterns, handwriting, punctuation and grammar. The amount the children are expected to write will also increase.

In maths, the children's learning will focus heavily on understanding and using number, but will also cover geometry, measurement and statistics. All of our maths work incorporates lots of practical activities and pictorial representations.

Please see the documents below which set out the English and Maths end of year expectations for Year 1 and Year 2.
