In Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6), the children are taught subjects according to the National Curriculum. They will have a daily English and Maths lesson which will progressively build on the skills they have been taught in previous years.
In English, there will be a focus key text from which much of the English work will be based upon. The children will continue to have regular reading sessions and will complete quizzes on Accelerated Reader in Years 3 & 4 and then Reading Plus in Years 5 & 6. These programmes will assess the children's reading accuracy and comprehension. Much of the writing in KS2 is cross-curricular linked to units of work in other areas eg science or history.
In maths, the focus on number will continue and the links between addition, subtraction, division and multiplication, as well as fractions/decimals/percentages,will be explored and embedded. We will also cover measurement, geometry and statistics, moving onto ratio & proportion and algebra in Year 6. There will be lots of opportunities for the children to use and apply their learning through problem solving and reasoning.
The documents below outline the end of year expectations for each year group.
