At Maryport Church of England Primary School, our vision is to give children a science curriculum which enables them to explore and discover the world around them, confidently, so that they have a deeper understanding of the world we live in.
We aim to provide pupils with an inspiring, thought-provoking syllabus that supports and nurtures their own intellectual development and interests. Through using a hands- on, inquiry based approach to learning, children will be able to ask questions, use scientific vocabulary and deepen their level of thinking. They will be able to carry out a variety of scientific investigations, using a range of equipment, in order to help them understand how these skills relate to reality.
Children will be offered wide range of extra-curricular activities, school trips, workshops and visitors that have meaningful links to what they are learning about in class. These not only help to compliment the curriculum but also aid in supporting their own scientific discoveries, both in and outside of school. Holding annual events such as Science Week, enthuses pupils, and shows them what is possible through science and the exciting careers and opportunities that these disciplines can present to them.
We believe that our science lessons help children develop a greater understanding of, and attitude towards, all three branches of science which can be applied to other subject areas. At Maryport Church of England Primary School, Science is an important part of the foundation for education for all children.
