At Maryport C of E Primary School we offer a stimulating, exciting, enriching curriculum designed to challenge, motivate and inspire children. We believe that all children should be given the opportunity to be inspired by great artists and learn skills they need to express themselves creatively. We aim to foster a life-long love and appreciation of the subject and will actively encourage the children to explore art as representation of cultural diversity and use this to help their wider understanding of the world around them.

We aim to provide visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a special way of understanding and responding to the world around them. This enables children of all abilities to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes.

We believe our art and design curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to participate in, experiment with, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. It is our intent that children will be encouraged to think creatively and critically. They will investigate and evaluate a wide range of creative outcomes from the past and present to develop an understanding of the many disciplines within art, craft and design and how they shape our past and future. We aim for the children to use these skills and make use of art effectively in their everyday lives.
