Hello and welcome to Juniper class. Here at Maryport Church of England Primary School, we look forward to the coming school year and all the engaging, innovative educational opportunities that lay ahead! Learning is fun in our class and we love doing times tables and challenges around them in order to get ready for the Multiplication Test Check later on in the year, which is lots of fun to practice for! We work hard on becoming independent writers and showing all of our brilliant ideas in our work. We enjoy reading and we look forward to achieving our half termly treat for reading at home, three times per week (every week). We also enjoy learning about our Christian Value themes and make sure we have plenty of opportunities to demonstrate these skills, both in and outside of school. This year our Christian Values are: Courage, Compassions, Peace, Friendship, Truth and Perseverance. These are focused on explicitly through our Collective Worship time and throughout our wider curriculum.

We have lots of exciting topics planned this year including: The Romans, The Ancient Greeks, megacities, jungles and deserts, as well as how to live more sustainably. We will also be going on trips and having workshops that will help us understand our topics in more detail.

We are really excited to be part of your child's experience of school and aim to give them the best possible educational journey in order to help them ‘Learn, Achieve and Shine!’

 Year 4 Multiplication Check - June 2022

The check is a series of quick fire times table questions to test knowledge of multiplication tables between 2 and 12. There'll be an emphasis on the 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 tables because these are considered to be the most difficult.

Although these checks became compulsory in 2020, they are optional this year as a result of the pandemic and the effect it had on learning.

Who is it for?

Year 4 children

What happens?

Each pupil has to answer 25 questions and access the questions online using an iPad or PC.

They have 6 seconds to answer each question. An on-screen timer will count down the time available for each question. There'll be multiple versions of the test. The version each pupil gets is selected at random. After half term, the children will get the opportunity to have a go at completing practice tests. The children will then do the actual check in June.

What can I do to help my child?

All children have preferred ways to learn - just like we do as adults! Your child may like to write out times tables over and over again, or practice questions, or they may learn best by singing, dancing or playing a board game. There are many different ways to practice. Your child's class teacher will give them specific homework linked to times tables to help prepare them. Please encourage your children to do this every week and help them with it after they have had a try themselves.

Also, feel free to click the guide below for a range of extra ways you can practice times tables with your child and choose the ones that work best for you.
