Welcome to Ash Class! For some of you this is the beginning of your child’s journey with us at Maryport C of E Primary School. It is a pleasure for me to be responsible for the Reception year as it is one of the most important and impressionable times in a child’s life. One of our key aims for this year is to help children feel safe and confident to explore and play independently. In our class we recognise the need to ensure the best Foundation Stage practice whilst ensuring we prepare your child for the expectations of the Key Stage 1 curriculum. This will enable children to be motivated, enthusiastic and successful learners.

The adults in our class are:

· Mrs Brinicombe (class teacher)

· Miss Wood

· Mrs Bell (am only)

Throughout the day, children learn through play and child-initiated activities often lead to opportunities to learn and extend their knowledge. This approach can offer great opportunities to practise and consolidate the skills and knowledge they have already learned. In the morning, we support your child with daily phonics lessons that are delivered using the Read Write Inc. programme. Similarly, our maths will often be adult led.

We enjoy an exciting range of topics to support understanding the world and expressive arts and design from learning about the Woods, to Traditional Tales and the work of famous artists and scientists. These topics are used in conjunction with the prime areas of communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development and make learning both fun and meaningful.

We are very lucky to have Miss Huddart who will deliver some Forest school sessions in our beautiful woodland.

We will let you know when it is the turn of our class.

Reception is a place we hope your child will feel safe and secure and where we will value and nurture their unique, God-given gifts.
