Hello and welcome to Juniper class (Year 4). Here at Maryport Church of England Primary School, we look forward to the coming school year and all the engaging, innovative educational opportunities that lay ahead! Learning is fun in our class and we love doing times tables and challenges around them in order to get ready for the Multiplication Test Check later on in the year, which is lots of fun to practice for! We work hard on becoming independent writers and showing all of our brilliant ideas in our work. We enjoy reading and we look forward to achieving our half termly treat for reading at home, three times per week (every week). We also enjoy learning about our Christian Value themes and make sure we have plenty of opportunities to demonstrate these skills, both in and outside of school. This year our Christian Values are: Courage, Compassions, Peace, Friendship, Truth and Perseverance. These are focused on explicitly through our Collective Worship time and throughout our wider curriculum.
We have lots of exciting topics planned this year including: The Romans, The Ancient Greeks, megacities, jungles and deserts, as well as how to live more sustainably. We will also be going on trips and having workshops that will help us understand our topics in more detail.
We are really excited to be part of your child's experience of school and aim to give them the best possible educational journey in order to help them ‘Learn, Achieve and Shine!’
The adults in Juniper class are:
· Miss Huddart (class teacher)
· Mrs Martin
· Mrs Minchella (Monday- Wednesday am only)
· Mrs Tweedie (Monday and Wednesday pm only)
· Mrs Dixon (Thursday afternoon)
In June 2019, a new Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) was trialed across the UK, becoming statutory in 2020.
The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether year 4 pupils can fluently recall their multiplication tables.
The MTC is focused on the fluent recall of multiplication facts. This is included in the national curriculum (2014) statutory programme of study for mathematics at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The national curriculum states, ‘By the end of year 4, pupils should have memorised their multiplication tables up to and including the 12 multiplication table and show precision and fluency in their work’.
The MTC will be delivered as an online, on-screen digital assessment and will take each pupil less than 5 minutes to complete.
